Deck Chairs
Directed by Jason Moseley
at Coach House Theatre
Jean McConnell has written five twist-in-the-tail playlets for two women – all set on a seaside promenade – that are by turns funny and poignant.
In Shoppers, two well-to-do shopaholics have a rather surprising secret. Early Blight is a heart-breaking exploration of a doomed mother/daughter relationship. Dancers wittily dissects the tea-dancing world of two skittish women.
Late Frost is a drama in which a woman finds out her best friend had an affair with her late husband and Doggies is a hilarious tale about two very different types of dog-owner.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf Samuel French Ltd.

Emmeline Pankhurst – Angel or Anarchist?
Written by Chris Jaeger
Starring Liz Grand
Emmeline Pankhurst is one of the most influential and well-known British women to have ever lived. She fought tirelessly for women to have the vote. She was imprisoned several times and often went on hunger strike. Having failed to make any impression on the male electorate and parliamentarians for nearly thirty years, she became a strong advocate of Direct Action. The suffragettes threw stones at politicians, set fire to letter boxes, torched buildings, chained themselves to railings, and threw themselves under horses.
Although they were eventually successful, many suffragettes suffered terribly during the fight. Emmeline had her critics. Many people believed that if the suffragettes had been less confrontational, women would have been given the vote much earlier. They saw Emmeline as someone who had hindered the fight rather than helped it. But what was the truth?
Starring Liz Grand (Previous shows ‘The Second Best Bed’, ‘Where Is Mrs, Christie?’, ‘Mrs. Churchill – My Life With Winston’ and ‘The Secret Life of Enid Blyton’) Liz brilliantly portrays this complex, courageous and visionary woman.

WHEN VINCENT MET JOHN
at the Coach House Theatre
Vincent died in 1890, John died in 1980, both of gunshot wounds to the chest. But imagine what might have happened, had the two greatest artists of their time, met?
Vincent van Gogh was a nineteenth-century Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.
John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, musician and peace activist who gained worldwide fame with The Beatles.
Around five years before their deaths both men went through profound change.
Vincent van Gogh finally renounced his religious ambitions and began to paint in earnest, and despite great arguments with antagonist Paul Gaugin created his life’s great masterworks.
John Lennon renounced sex, drugs and rock & roll and began five years seclusion as a family unit, and despite great arguments with antagonist Paul McCartney created a son, and what would be his last album.
This play takes place at their exact moment of crisis and decision, exploring love, death, art and legacy.

“Why Knot?”
by
Steve Burford
Love is love. But can there be a “Happily Ever After” without an “I Do” at the start?
Dave and Vince have been a couple for over ten years. Life is good and as straightforward as it gets for gay men – until the Friday night Dave brings home Tony, a heart-broken, straight friend, and questions long thought answered and forgotten raise their heads again.
Is a civil partnership just a piece of paper – like a parking ticket?
Is marriage really just the same thing but with posher clothes and more confetti?
Will Tony ever find out why his only girlfriend has dumped him?
Will Vince and Dave’s relationship survive the disruption to their Friday routine and the support of their fag hags?
And will Vince ever see an Hawaiian pizza again?
Steve Burford’s new comedy faces the difficult questions and asks – “Why Knot?”
