STAC, The Swan Theatre Amateur Company presents a double bill:

Last Tango in Little Grimley & The Fat Lady Sings in Little Grimley

Join us to follow the very funny exploits of the Little Grimley Amateur Dramatics Society, written by David Tristram.

LAST TANGO IN LITTLE GRIMLEY – Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society is in trouble. The membership has dwindled to four – the audiences aren’t much bigger – and if they don’t come up with some rent money soon, they’re going to be thrown out. “There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days” argues Gordon the Chairman. “Sex!” Thus begins the chaotic and hilarious build-up to an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama – an evening the locals would never forget!

THE FAT LADY SINGS IN LITTLE GRIMLEY – Gordon, Margaret, Joyce and Bernard tackle yet another threat to their survival – this time in the shape of a rival am-dram, newly-formed in their village, determined to upstage them with an award-winning musical. The querulous quartet pull together to devise an ingenious military-style plan that doesn’t go quite to plan. When their subterfuge is discovered by the rival society’s psychopathic front-of-house manager, he’s none too pleased. Add in a few emotional complications for Gordon, and things look a little grim for Little Grimley. Could this finally be the end of their society?

The Swan Theatre Amateur Company (STAC) will be presenting two of David Tristram’s popular one-act plays, Last Tango in Little Grimley and The Fat Lady Sings in Little Grimley at The Coach House Theatre, Malvern from 1st – 3rd May at 7.30pm, plus a matinee at 2.00pm on Saturday 3rd May.

The four members of the Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society committee are desperate to come up with a play that will attract bigger audiences, so their enthusiastic Chairman and director, Gordon, persuades them to be more adventurous. “There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days” he argues, “Sex!”. We witness the chaotic and hilarious build-up to an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama, as diva Margaret, timid Joyce and reluctant Bernard are drawn into producing an event the locals will never forget.

Following their sizzling success, the team are faced with a new battle when a rival am-dram group starts up in the village. Determined to upstage them with an award-winning musical, our resilient quartet pull together to devise an ingenious military-style operation that doesn’t go quite to plan. Add in a few emotional complications for Gordon, and things look a little grim for Little Grimley. Could this finally be the end of their society?

The show received four-star reviews when performed in Worcester in March:

“The tale is told well by a wonderful cast creating memorable characters and displaying immaculate timing… so you can just sit back, laugh and enjoy, forgetting the world outside for a while.”  Behind the Arras****

“The plays are completely independent of each other and both are very funny. There is something here which most of us will recognise just within these four well-acted characters.”  The View from the Stalls****

Tickets are £15.00, available from Malvern Theatres box office online or 01684 892277; also at The Coach House Theatre from 7.00pm for that night’s performance only, subject to availability.
