In 2017 the Royal Shakespeare Company will mark the 2000 anniversary of the death of Ovid with their Rome season.

Shakespeare lecturer Amelia Marriette has devised a new course which broadens the theme of Shakespeare and Rome, by considering Shakespeare’s obsession with Italy in general Sessions will focus on Shakespeare’s use of classical sources and extracts of Shakespeare’s Italian works on film.

A chance to consider acting options is also included using extracts of John Barton’s excellent Playing Shakespeare series The course also looks at the importance of Ancient Rome in the Western World and, just like Shakespeare’s texts, discusses how much we are indebted to the Romans today.

Amelia Marriette has an MA in Shakespeare Studies from the Shakespeare Institute and has worked as the playwright-onattachment for Malvern Theatre Players since 2005. Her Shakespeare play Nay. Remember Me! will be published by Roister Doister Publishers in 2017
